The Cats

A Special Kind of Love: My Heart for Cats

When John Wick loves dog, I love cats.

……………………………………………………

There’s a kind of love that asks for nothing.
It doesn’t come with conditions, performance, or pride.
It just… exists. Quiet. Loyal. Present.

That’s the kind of love I feel when I’m around cats.

I don’t care what they look like—clean, dirty, fluffy, scruffy, big eyes or torn ears—I love them all. Their presence speaks to something ancient and gentle inside me. Cats, to me, are pure souls in fur coats, walking around with dignity, softness, and a spirit that can’t be tamed.

Their love is natural and sincere.
They don’t flatter. They don’t pretend.
They either trust you—or they don’t.
And when they do, it feels like an honour.

Every day, I carry cat food in my bag—just in case I see a stray that needs it. And often, I do. Throughout my life, I’ve had stray cats visit my home, as if they knew it was a safe space. Some stayed a while. Some simply passed through. But all of them brought joy. Their soft meows, their gentle nudges, their trust—it’s a gift I don’t take lightly.

When I was living in the U.S. with my ex-husband, we had two cats: Pixie and Leo. They were a part of our small world—little companions with big personalities. Even during difficult times, their presence was grounding. Loving. Real.

And perhaps that’s why it devastates me so much to see animals being abused or neglected.
I can’t stand it.
It cuts deeper than I can explain.

Maybe it’s because I know what it feels like to be overlooked, mistreated, or forgotten.
Maybe it’s because, like many animals, I’ve had to fend for myself, find safety where there was none, and survive with my instincts.
Or maybe it’s because I’ve felt the kind of unconditional love they give—and I know the world doesn’t deserve to treat them cruelly.

Loving animals—especially cats—isn’t just a hobby for me.
It’s a form of prayer.
A form of love that doesn’t need words.

When I feed a stray, it’s not just food I’m giving. It’s acknowledgment. It’s saying:
“I see you. You matter. You’re not alone.”

In return, they’ve reminded me what loyalty looks like in silence.
What connection feels like without drama.
What love is, without strings.

So yes—cats will always be one of the loves of my life.
They have healed me, softened me, and reminded me of the beauty in simplicity.
And in this world of noise, their quiet presence is everything I didn’t know I needed.
